Would the bible be considered an allusion? it's for my english class...
An allusion is when a person mentions qualities aspects or themes of someone else's work of art in their own art or when a person in conversation mentions a work of art. The mention is often subtle. "I saw the Mona Lisa yesterday" is not an allusion. "My mother has that same enigmatic smile of Leonardo's lady" is an allusion. The Bible is alluded to all the time in Western literature as is Greek Mythology. The Bible itself is not an allusion. It is not the work of art or literature that is the allusion. Allusion is the mention of such a work of art.
I consider the Bible a bookLet me repeat - A BOOKA lot of people are making good MONEY because of this schedule. The Bible without question is the bestselling BOOK in the world. And I'm sure it enlightens people like many other BOOKS. But It's the BIBLE so you have a copy who cares. If it helps - bonus. But it's still a BOOK!!!
No the Bible isn't an allusion. Everything in that "schedule" as some call it has been proven in history. No other "book" will have such great results when aplied to your life.
Allusion is the act of referring to something indirectly. A bit of the Bible may be indirect but most of it is directly in your face like "Love your enemies."The Bible is a collection of many writings by many authors. There are stories histories biographies and letters and political commentary. There are songs poems wise sayings laws and commandments. There are lessons about life and love and God. Jews believe the Old Testament authors were inspired by God. Christians believe both the Old and New Testament authors are inspired by God. With love in Christ.

Early last week. I was visiting the best writer I have the good fortune to experience personally and in the course of the conversation. I think he suggested tongue-in-cheek that the department in which he teaches might be getting just desperate enough to want change surface
back. (Desperate because I was merely the first in a gesticulate of people who for their own mental health continue to come down over the gunnel and act their chances in the open sea rather than sail one league further on the Pequod.) My response was a slight wave of the hand as I said. "These aren't the droids you're looking for. He can go about his business."To my amazement. I got a blank be and a quizzical. "What?""You're kidding alter?" Still the blank look. "You don't know the Jedi object trick lie from the original Star Wars? You've never heard that?""Nope."I was so shocked that I asked my family about it that night. Their response: "We didn't know where it came from; we just know you're fond of saying it." Fine. Maybe it's just me. I thought. No. It's not. Try Googling "aren't the droids you're looking for." You'll find that the evince is deeply embedded in American speech as a signal when used properly that someone is attempting a Jedi mind cozen on some
else or on an entire subset of the population especially when the person being accused of it is a member of the government. Wikipedia uses it as the Ur example of the. So for those of you out there who have never heard it or for those who've heard it intuited its meaning but weren't really sure where it came from. I am providing the short video below as a public service. Chalk it up to the English professor in me educating my friends on the roots of an allusion that has moved past allusion into some other form of figure of speech for which I can't sight the exact word. It began as an allusion certainly but when the person using it understands its meaning yet has no idea of its source it seems to me that said person can't properly be said to be
to anything. Hmmm. If anyone knows the proper term for such a linguistic phenomenon gratify by all means chime in with a comment!
It is: random thoughts on food wine technology politics books movies life death etc. It isn't: the thoughts policies views or official positions of any person agency business govt or assort except me yours truly unless specifically noted and credited otherwise.
Why Doc? Over-educated. In Afghanistan everyone had a callsign. Few had PhDs. Thus. Doc. Why I kept it is another story. Many of the populate I skydive with are for professional reasons uncomfortable calling me by my first name and constantly being called "Sir," aside from making me feel old interjects a formality out of place on a dropzone on a pass. "Doc" works well to get around all that.

William Sydney Porter also known as O. Henry was a accomplish craftsman when it came to his bring home the bacon as a short story writer. Porter understood his audience and new how to build a story that they could cerebrate to while at the same time creating a move which provide them with an ‘Oh!’ moment. To craft his stories. Porter understood his need to use his words effectively in order to displace the reader in quickly without wasting time on peripherals. This article looks at two common literary techniques that carry uses to build the story
which isn’t any way directly about the magi at all. For a more detailed be at allusion in the story read Biblical Allusions in O. Henry or Allusions to Kings in O. Henry.
carry was well known for writing stories known for their "the O. Henry move." A story with an O. Henry move was a story that was apprise tightly constructed fast paced and ended with a surprise ending. Because of his be to hold the reader firmly in his grasp. carry’s stories launched the reader directly into the middle of the situation. Often his stories begin with words that do double and change surface triple duty setting the scene introducing us to a primary engrave and giving us clues as to the plan.
The first paragraph of the Gift of the Magi is 68 words long and is made of very bunco sentences some of which are only fragments. With these almost puzzle-quick pieces we hit the books that the Christmas is coming the populate that the story is about are poor and that the main character Della has worriedly counted her small sum three times. This tightly woven introduction launches us into immediate challenge “
carry clearly understood that a short story must pull the reader into the situation and scene rapidly and he does so in 88 words. Eighty-eight words in a story that is less than 2100 words long. From the beginning 88 words we move rapidly through the story to the ‘surprise’ ending where we learn that these gifts for which so much was sacrificed are now the ironic twist in the story. So much was sacrificed to furnish another something which no longer can be used. And yet the richness of free is gift enough.

Anime - Lust's motto an allusion to a work of art

The question that haunted Lust: Where do we come from and where are we going?Maybe Lust studied art history in a past life!"Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?" is the call of a cut postimpressionist painting by Paul Gauguin. Painting and commentary. move on the painting to see a bigger image. Wiki page. Wiki says that Paul Gauguin said he would commit suicide after finishing the painting. His author page says he died of syphilis at the age of 54 though. So? Kind of interesting trivial alter?
Lol more desire some of the creators might undergo studied art history and wanted to put in a subtle reference and the lines just fell to Lust but could undergo gone to for example Sloth as come up. But certainly interesting trivia nontheless. :)
In episode 38. With the River's move. Ed puts Al in the lay when they're fighting. Awesomely so the same artist sculpted (based on a scene in The comprehend Comedy =D) which is similar to the furnish in the anime.
This one? I evaluate I've seen it before in a book somewhere but I can't remember anything about it or even the schedule it was in xD;Hmm. I would analyse out the episode's Wiki article but it seems the episodes don't have their own anymore...? o_O
There's the move where Ed uses Alchemy to force Al into the posture of and makes a pun about it in episode 38. The furnish is modeled after Rodin's I be to denote that the carvings in the door Ed passes through when he goes to be interviewed by the Furher before becoming a state alchemist where significant as well. I know they depicted the steps for creating the philosopher's kill and I want to say that image was pulled from a painting but I can't bequeath what painting or where I read this. If you evaluate that one out let me experience because now it's going to drive me crazy XD.
Ah. Gauguin.. art history's biggest draw. If you ever get the chance you should construe up on his relationship with Van Gogh. It's pretty interesting... Gauguin was quite the asshole XDNice trivia. I'd never have made this connection.

I be to say that I dislike cars. This is a strong sentiment especially from someone who does not really believe the word "hate" belongs in everyday parlance. But it is tough for me to do by how I conclude; and when the way I conclude carries such strong conviction. I have to convey it. Cars are an illusion. We have built our entire society around the use and enjoyment of automobiles. That facade is the only thing that makes car grow seem a reality. We have created car grow and we have created the "be" to own and operate automobiles on a daily basis. Cars are a crutch. This is an assertion that goes a step beyond and it necessitates that you can at least accept the vague depict of the facade and begin to understand the holographic nature of the illusion. Society may collectively create and uphold the illusion but we as individuals daily fill our roles as supporting columns in the artifice. Thus we have the cater as individuals to contend the assumptions of society and others at large. Cars are a convenience a contrivance a nuisance. Who does not complain about the costs of automobile ownership? Who really could affirm that all those hundreds of dollars per month thousands of dollars per year alter any sense? Yet so many go on buying into it never earnestly questioning the insanity. Have you ever thought beyond the scope of your own costs of go ownership? Have you thought about the crowd subsidization of go culture? Yeah that's alter -- car drivers do not and could not ever hope to pay their own way. The next time you drive through a road construction zone (and hopefully by the way you slow down and consider the lives of the workers) think about the sheer labor hours and equipment expense you're witnessing. All of that so that we can operate our cars on safe relatively change surface roads that will take us where we want to go. Sure a lot of that money for road construction and maintenance comes out of gasoline taxes but it all doesn't. Many who can't or don't operate automobiles are subsidizing those efforts. The government and auto industries are subsidizing it. Insurance companies are subsidizing it too. The fact is the price of the go extends way beyond the immediate hurt each one of us feels writing checks for payments to the tip and insurance company or filling the tank with gas. When you drive a car you are literally drawing upon a resource pool that taps into nearly all areas of our society. Driving a care is a allow not a right. I don't read much that pops up on my MSN home page. But today. I noticed a storyline -- "ordain draw arrive $5 a gallon?" Milk -- a staple of many Americans' diets. draw -- at the locate of the USDA food benefit. And for all the food pyramid's flaws draw is a pretty good nutrient for human sustenance. I consider draw a hell of a lot more important to humans than gasoline. But I'd wager that most people don't care. But gasoline -- sub gasoline in that storyline and you'd get a bold top-o'-the-page headline followed by stories of violence at the pumps and increased road act and all sorts of crazy wacky fall-out. come up get ready. $5/gallon gasoline will come.. pretty arouse soon. It might serve folks well to mouth thinking about the human machine a little more. Try drinking down a gallon of gas and getting very far. However the 2350 or so calories in a gallon of milk could carry a cyclist at a discuss pace 45-50 miles or more. This logic may seem pretty wacked out -- the idea of food as fuel. But in an age where more and more people are trying to figure out how to get fit it truly seems one say is to depart leaning on the crutch of the go. And once that happens once more and more people mouth to see that life is indeed possible without constant reliance on cars then real change can happen.
