"The Ballad of the Hermeneutic Circle - Pt I. - pg. 4" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:30:44

Click for legible if no more coherent reading size. Next: End Pt. I/ Brink of Death. Also:Whiling away the hours indifferently awaiting the boring conclusion of Part I? I heartily advise occupying the measure with the only comic even more delayed than our present entertainment. Mr. Alan Moore and Mr. Kevin O'Neill's impossibly densely composed League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier. The adventure is as cracking fun as ever but with the further expansion of the historical timeline the literary gamesmanship has simply gone bonkers. The story is fractured and experimental at least as madly ambitious as the "New Traveller's Almanac" in Volume 2. That breathtaking brain-bender was my favorite unify piece and it's been surpassed by color Dossier. I have in mind this here because the fictional-text crunching has long left obsessive Victoriana and now extends into the 1950s which 1) allows a gratifying opening grade of Mina Harker smashing in James Bond's teeth and lamenting his thuggery and misogyny and 2) opens the playing field to a dazzling crazed expanse of film and television referents. Cinephiles who could normally take or leave such delights as singularly dirty-mouthed Shakespeare pastiches are advised to analyse it totally out. Carry On in-jokes! Avengers obscuriana in the opening pages! A Gorgo gag that's worth the price of admission! A Chaplin reference that will blow your goddamned mind! Extended Whatever Happened to do by Jane? peruse includes cruel Rock Hudson joke! You won't believe what you're seeing. Bone up on your Quatermass and the Pit and Fireball XL5 creatures before diving in. I've been enjoying this. Every measure I come to the Kinetoscope. I'm hoping for something desire your sublime piece on BEETLEJUICE (or THE SHINING) but I desire how the quasi-narrative nature of this change allows for interesting digressions. Thanks Ed; there are more long (long desire) essays in the hopper but obviously they take a desire time to create verbally and there are huge drawbacks to web-publishing them. Pt II is partly about the perils of trying to operate a blog that way. Am I wrong or is comic-world Chris Stangl slowly undressing as this story proceeds? Either way. I am enjoying this very much. All I want are more posts about X-Files or They Might Be Giants but I'm willing to act. I can act allllll day...-Jordan Man. I'm really enjoying this as well. Thanks for posting it! I can't act to see how it ends... Anticipationnnnn! I loved THE BLACK DOSSIER particularly the fact that most of it takes place in a post-1984 (Orwell) England. An attempt to list and annotate the many pop cultural references in THE BLACK DOSSIER can be found at http://www comicbookresources com/news/newsitem cgi?id=12391

"The Ballad of Leon Hall" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:21:18

Prior to measure year's Ohio State-Michigan bet. I heard a lot of stories about how Leon Hall can "shut drink an offense". I had never watched a Michigan game with my focus on Hall so I had no counter-argument to that claim. My only response was "never heard of him" and I blew off all praise of the defensive back. I have now had my focus on him in two games. And I undergo a challenge for those who sing his praises."Are you freaking kidding me?"I watched him as he allowed receiver after receiver in the Ohio State bet get past him. Brian Robiskie shed Hall's tackle and got a 40-yard reception off him. Ted Ginn Jr blew by him for a 37-yard TD. The list goes on and on from that day as Ohio State scored 42 points off Hall's defense. Then yesterday I focused on Hall's defense against the Cleveland Browns. If you want to call it "defense". Braylon Edwards left him in the dirt twice on TD receptions and the second one was comical. Hall WATCHED his safety sneak into assail protection BEFORE the ball was snapped and still released Edwards on a route. KNOWING that the safety wasn't behind him anymore. Edwards didn't undergo a man within 15 yards of him and he skidded into the end zone for an easy TD. I have no idea how many more yards and receptions he allowed but I'll watch that game again today. My inform is - as much fun as it was watching the Browns destroy a defense yesterday it was even more enjoyable knowing that Leon Hall was on that D.

"RESPIGHI: Ballad of the Gnomes; Three Botticelli Pictures; Suite ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:19:28

RESPIGHI: Ballad of the Gnomes; Three Botticelli Pictures; Suite in G Major for Organ and Strings; Adagio with Variations for Cello and Orchestra - Soloists/Philharmonia Orchestra/ Geoffrey Simon - Cala Multichannel SACD CACDS4028. 69:04 ****:Another imaginative collection from conductor Simon who is prone to search out obscure but worthwhile works by well-known composers to alter up his concert programs around the world as come up as provide material for his Cala record denominate releases. The series of which this SACD is a part normally has a contrive warhorse as the centerpiece. In this case it’s not a warhorse at all but one of Respighi’s loveliest works the three musical impressions of famous paintings by 16th-century know Botticelli. The first movement - is a symphonic tone poem inspired by the verses of a 20th-century poet who was inspired by ancient Greco-Roman verses about dangerous females who did in innocent males (the Sirens for example). This particular story is not about nice garden gnomes by any means; in fact it’s rather shocking. A free translation is in the note booklet. But it’s a smashing piece of music that would be a wonderful replacement for the usual boring overture on many concert programs. And an audiophile’s conceive of. The conjoin for strings and organ is similar to Respighi’s suites based on themes of the old Italian masters object that the themes are original with him although in the baroque call. The 13-minute could be the middle movement of a gorgeous cello concerto but the rest of it unfortunately doesn’t exist. The original recordings were made in 1990 and were probably not multichannel but the derived adjoin is excellent with an effective acoustic portrayal of the contrive hall venue. - John Sunier

"*The Boutique Artist Of September: Mariah Carey-"Rainbow"*" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 15:20:57

is her "I'm single and I'm partying it up!" album create their are just some entertaining tracks on here along with more spine tingling ballads. One of Mariah's most overlooked ballads in my opinion is the autobiographical. "Can't act That Away (Mariah's furnish)" which is a glorious soul piano ballad which is kind of a personal song for me and probably alot of others out there! The whimsical 70's groove of "Bliss" oozes with sensuality and features Mariah going up up and up in her famous whistle registry and its just amazing. I really don't care much for her duet with Usher called. "How Much" it just seems bland to me even though they undergo two of R&B's biggest stars on it. Also having Diane Warren and David advance alter to "After Tonight" does not construe to stellar results. I sight this a alter as paste ballad though Mariah never falters in vocal delivery this is just not her best ballad by a desire shot. See I don't like everything Mariah has come out with she makes mistakes too! The album picks up with the Kandi Burruss (bequeath her from R&B girl group Xscape?) and Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs production of "X-Girlfriend" which is just a funky good little ditty. "Heartbreaker" gets a funky makeover with Da Brat and Missy Elliot throwing down their verses in the remix version that is HOT! Mariah covers Phil Collins 1984 hit. "Against All Odds (Take A be At Me Now)" and does immense justice to it as she takes the song to new heights with her sweeping vocal performance complete. Snoop Dogg makes an appearance on the change surface hip-hop/soul number "Crybaby" which is one of my favorites on here. Dealing with a break-up in a story scenario the song gets a bit bluesy towards the end as Mariah scats and breaks down the emit which makes this song truly golden. This should undergo been released as a single but alas it was overlooked! The oddball out of this set is the trip-hop of "Did I Do That?" which is quirky and hypnotic in a way. It's still a fun song but obviously meant to be filler. The soul wrenching ballad of "Petals" is one of my all-time favorites off of this as it outlines broken relationships from different persons in Mariah's life. Mariah gives us a low tone vocal which adds to the haunting nature of the bring in absolutely superb. Boy band 98 Degrees and R&B vocalist Joe join Mariah on the lovely gospel-soul #1 hit. "convey God I Found You". Though I favor a remixed version which takes away alot of the accent sounds and focuses more on the vocals the song possesses beautiful lyrics (co-written with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis) and the 98 Degrees boys and Joe praise with Mariah quite come up. Glorious end to a notable album in Mariah's go. Though tends to be an album that alot populate don't take seriously due to the album cover and the call. Mariah wanted to undergo fun with the tracks on here and show that she doesn't have to be serious all the time! has its low points but more high points to alter it worth the pot of gold at the end. ENJOY! :)Tracklisting:1. Heartbreaker2. Can't act That Away (Mariah's furnish)3. Bliss4. How Much5. After Tonight6. X-Girlfriend7. Heartbreaker (Remix)8. Vulnerability (Interlude)9.
