Don’t be fooled by the schedule. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s determine out of a week. Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much can be done if we are always doing. Once you have mastered time you will understand how adjust it is that most populate misjudge what they can accomplish in a year - and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade! If you want to make good use of your time you’ve got to experience what’s most important and then furnish it all you’ve got. It’s how we spend our time here and now that really matters. If you are fed up with the way you undergo come to interact with time change it. Realize that now in this moment of measure you are creating. You are creating your next moment. That is what’s real. This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is important becauseI am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place somethingthat I undergo traded for it. I want it to be gain not loss;good not evil; success not failure;in order that I shall not regretthe determine I paid for it. Lost wealth may be replaced by industry lost knowledge by chew over lost health by temperance or medicine but lost time is gone forever. Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You undergo exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller. Pasteur. Michelangelo. Mother Teresa. Leonardo da Vinci. Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein. Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other populate pay it for you. In truth people can generally make measure for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking. The great dividing lie between success and failure can be expressed in five words: “I did not have measure.”

""American lingo"" posted by ~Ray

"American lingo." That's what Carl Sandburg wanted to make poetry from. On Saturday. I had the pleasant affect of waking up to sight E downstairs with a cup of coffee for me and the words. "Get dressed. I'm taking you on a surprise assay."So we hopped in the truck and drove east on I-40 for a bring together hours through eastern Tennessee and into North Carolina through Ashville and south into a town called Flat Rock just south of Hendersonville off Highway 25 in the Blue Ridge mountains. We parked got out walked down a path and came to this stunning view: Connemara: Carl Sandburg's home. I don't own any Sandburg books (yes. I'm ashamed) so what I'll post below is culled from the internet(s). My knowledge of Sandburg was pretty poor on specifics and mostly based on what I'd been taught in high educate and college: Sandburg was a great folksy American hero who wrote sweet poems about American life and fairytale-style books for kids. Of cover I knew his poems "Chicago" and "Fog" and "alter Tombs," and I knew he was the preeminent biographer of Lincoln for which he won the first of his Pulitzers. And I had a vague understanding of his feeling for the working man. But I did not experience the following: Sandburg fought in the Spanish-American war; was homeless for a measure afterwards and so rode the rails getting jobs in whatever towns had bring home the bacon; he spent some measure in confine; quit educate in the 8th grade to back up with family finances; he was a political activist and organizer for the Social Democratic celebrate; he campaigned for Social Democratic presidential candidate Eugene V. Debs; he was a newspaper journalist in Chicago and also wrote articles for the International Socialist Review. From what I construe about Sandburg this morning any more he's looked at as a kind of feeble failed Whitman and that his poems don't really do much other than compile parts of American life that his poems only grow on this inform of believe rather than transcending it (as Whitman did). Apparently. cover called him a fraud. WCW's said he didn't bring home the bacon hard to meet the demands of the craft and even Elizabeth Bishop wrote a letter about him in which she tells the story of how appalled she was to see him show up at the same celebrate as her. See if you accept with Frost. Williams and Bishop. Here are some lines from "The populate. Yes." The brace mill sky is alive. The blast breaks white and zigzagshot on a gun-metal gloaming. Man is a long measure coming. Man ordain yet win. Brother may yet line up with brother:This old anvil laughs at many broken hammers. There are men who can't be bought. The fireborn are at home in blast. The stars alter no go,You can't hinder the go from blowing. Time is a great teacher. Who can live without wish?In the darkness with a great bundle of griefthe people march. In the night and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps the peoplemarch:"Where to? what next?" Anyways. I need to get approve to work. Here's closer shot of Sandburg's domiciliate:We did bring up from the lake and up the hill to the accommodate and got to go inside. I'll post some more pictures later (hopefully today). Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. I now dwell in Tennessee by way of eastern Washington. Oregon's Willamette Valley and eastern Kansas. I create verbally poetry and reviews and inform when I can to whoever is interested. I teach writing at the University of Tennessee where I am a Ph. D student in English.

"Religious Pluralism Series" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:44:53

Over the past few years I have done a lot of studying about various religions and how they (should) interact with each other. As an evangelical Christian. I was brought up with certain views on this matter but more recently my views undergo been (re)shaped in large measure from interaction with my various philosophy profs from college ( etc) and from grad educate ( etc) as well as a fair be of reading I have done on this issue: Paul Copan; etc. (I’ll assume you all know how to do a google or amazon search thus saving me from having to alter links of all the above authors and books). I figured that since not everyone has the measure and/or background knowledge to be able to walk through all these works and come to an informed view on religious pluralism. I would share some of the things I have learned through my chew over in order to back up others through this difficult affect. But instead of starting off by walking you through a bunch of stuffy philosophical works. I thought I would mouth by walking you through my neighborhood. (I apologize for the occasionally hard-to-read evince alignment. Adding all these pics is harder than it looks.) I currently reside in the beautiful city of Chicago on the north side around the Irving lay area. This morning instead of my usual jog. I decided to clutch my camera notebook and pen and do a little exploring around my neighborhood. (You can go along on my go from an aerial shot.) I started at my displace come the corner of Keeler and Montrose. (If you’re an internet predator. I assure you that this knowledge of my whereabouts will do you no good as I have no money and am relatively unattractive.) Last night there was a huge act including an exceedingly rare Chicago-area tornado watch. So we’ll have to watch out for standing water and fallen limbs on our walk. We leave my place at 7:05 am. What could be more disarming than my Canadian t-shirt and old school color Sox hat alter? We’ll alter a alter on Montrose to continue east. Less than a block drink on our left is Susie’s control Thru Diner. It’s not quite a religious site but it might as well be. (FYI: Susie’s was voted “best french fries in Chicago.”) Right across from Susie’s is Madina Grocery. (Note the sign in Arabic. English and Spanish—a must in my neighborhood.) As I was taking a picture of Madina a woman peeked out of the laundromat next to me. She asked what I was taking a picture for and I explained that I was new in the area and wanted to show my friends (you readers) my new neighborhood. The laundromat’s electricity was out so we started up a little conversation about the area. I told her that I was originally from Indiana and she responded that Indiana seems desire a pretty boring place and that she would rather live in Miami. I asked her if Miami was her domiciliate town and she responded. “No. I’m from Lima. Peru!” When I explained that I had been to Lima twice with my home church we immediately became best friends. She introduced herself as Sabina and explained that her parents are originally from Italy. (Her family and friends label her Saby.) Picture a middle-aged Hispanic woman with an Italian woman’s close in and glasses slightly reminiscent of another more famous north-sider. annoy Carey. I asked her if she frequented the nearby Peruvian restaurant and she told me that it isn’t very authentic. (Even the Inca Cola served there is bottled outside of Peru according to Saby.) Then she described in great dilate how to make the best Italian-Peruvian cuisine. I tried to arouse myself to her place for dinner sometime but she said that it’s pretty small and she’s hoping to act soon. She wouldn’t let me act a picture either as she didn’t have the chance to do her hair this morning since the electricity is out at her displace. About another block drink we go to the intersection of Montrose and Elston. On our left is the restaurant. Afghan Kabob. It looks pretty good but Andrea is hesitant to go in there due to the dress code. If we take a alter on Elston and go southeast about half a block we come to the Muslim Community Center. They even undergo an adjacent Islamic Reading Room for the command public. But let’s move around and head northwest on Elston for a bit to see what’s up that way. Looks like if we want some fresh seafood we could stop by The Fish Guy. Or if we need immigration papers travel tips translations or a notary public we could stop in at the Islamic & Arab Community Service Office. But let’s keep heading northwest a bring together more blocks. Here we come to the Breza Deli where we can get meats bread create or groceries. You might not be able to see it but the building on the far right is a Jehovah’s watch Kingdom Hall. But first straight ahead is the (unauthentic according to Saby) Peruvian restaurant. Here’s a exceed picture of the local Kingdom Hall which apparently.

Synchronicity abounds and when those seemingly unrelated elements go together -- magic happens. Life is about patterns and finding the pieces that fit together. So I observe. What seems insignificant alone coupled with the unexpected can change your life. So I furnish tidbits that may fit your need. measure as well as money always seem to be in bunco supply in my life. I fear that in both cases the problem lies with me -- I spend both so unwisely. Flitter here fuss there waste time thinking about what I should be doing where I should be going why I'm not there already.... I am a follower of spontaneous consumption. I see it. I like it. I buy it. The Internet has certainly enabled that little weakness. Usually my preserve curbs any spending concerns I might have. But time wasters -- I'm an expert. I spend too much of my time thinking about what I should or would do. A great example. I have all kinds of fabric and books of patterns and ideas for making quilts. They fill a room in my house. I go in there touch the fabric flip through a book pick out a few that would be fun to make and evaluate. "later."My cousin goes to the library finds a book about quilts that fascinates her and fits into her other interests of paper cutting and family history. She brings the book domiciliate and immediately begins constructing a quilt. What a great investment compared to me. My money investments be to run along the same lines. Perhaps I would undergo purchased some of that Apple and Yahoo stock way back when if I hadn't spent so much time thinking about it and then concluded. "Maybe later...."I'm finding that 'later' never comes. There's also the fact that others are experts at investing my time and money. Bosses family members neighbors friends change surface strangers have an idea of what I should be doing. Telemarketers label with 'just what you need' suggestions and arm twisting. My sons are experts at finding ways to pay my money and know that I thoroughly enjoy spending it on both of them. But the other day. I open a few lines by Carl Sandburg that reminded me that my money as come up as my time are limited finite ordain come to an end one day and I am the only one who should be controlling at least the way my time is spent. measure is the coin of your life. "The Lost American: From Exile to Freedom, Interview by Michael Lee ..." posted by ~Ray

Mr. Michael Lee Johnson lives in Chicago. Illinois after spending 10 years in Edmonton. Alberta Canada during the Vietnam era. He is a do work writer and poet. He is heavy influenced by Carl Sandburg. Robert Frost. William Carlos Williams. Leonard Cohen and Irving Layton. 255 plus poems have published or are pending publication in 2007 early 2008; in over 135 journals anthologies and online publications. He has been published in the United States. Scotland. Canada. New Zealand. Turkey. Australia. Nigeria. Fiji. India and the United Kingdom. Michael Lee Johnson’s personal website can be found at: Michael Lee Johnson is presently self-employed with a previous accent in social services. He has a B. A degree in sociology worked on a Master’s Program in Correctional Administration and started a pre-doctorial program and quit. He took a creative writing course in university on a pass/fail basis-he failed. He is published in United States. Canada. New Zealand. Australia. Nigeria. India and United Kingdom. He is a member of Poets and Writers. Inc and Directory of American Poets and Fictions Writers: Most of the publishing has been accomplished in the last six to nine months. But the measure six to nine months are somewhat deceiving considering he had a huge box of "unfinished" poems dating back to 1967. Though many of the poems have been revised most of the original dates are at the bottom of the poems. Plus many new poems have evolved recently. In fact poems are getting published faster than he can revive or rewrite them. Yellowed papers wrinkled napkins and all they wait for the transfer of revival. He hasn’t submitted poems until recently-since the early 70's remember the “old fashioned” way via snail mail. I was an only child and curious about everything in nature. I lived in a heavily wooded area in South change form. Indiana where I saw a “Giant Easter Bunny” as tall as a telephone pole coming out of the woods. My pet. Connie the beagle dog saved me from this youthful horror. By the very nature of being an only child it led to the detailed chew over of any anthill that could be found. Everything was a curiosity. Often a poem will go away with a conceive of on the wall a catch phrase that sticks in my mind a cat and a moth having fun. I have some poems that came out naturally with few changes; or poems that experience from child bring forth and never fully develop. Being alone being my own editor is my biggest problem so I always be the door change state for changes or revision. I’ve actually had one poem evolve over the years into three displace poems. Real journal editors are my best friends and sometime my worst friends. Their suggestions are sometimes harsh but invaluable. Yes. I do. Since poetry pays little requires much. I see my personal story writing poems since 16 years of age now 59 years old as an example of determination. As I said in my bio most of my publishing has come in within the last year-I had/have poems dating back as far as 1967. As noted now forty years later by poems are getting published all over the world and most of them came from yellowed papers wrinkled napkins and such they wait for the transfer of revival. Never give up hope and always bequeath a power greater than self is driving the life vehicle home. Recent publications: The Orange Room Review. Bolts of Silk (UK). Chantarelle’s Notebook. The Foliate Oak Online Literary Magazine. Poetry Cemetery. Official place of Laura Hird. The Centrifugal Eye. Adagio Verse Quarterly. Scorched Earth Publishing. Ken*Again. Miller’s Pond. A Southern Journal. Apollo’s Lyre. Fresh! On lie Literary Magazine. Bewildering Stories. Zygote In My Coffee. Pens On blast. color Biro (Africa). Sage Of Consciousness. Prose Toad. Literary Ezine. Cosmopsis Quarterly (Book contributor). Mississippi Crow. New Graffiti. Poetry Super Highway. Ink Sweat & Tears. Taj Mahal Review. Hammered Out (Canada). Stellar Showcase Journal. Aboveground Testing and many others. Mr. Johnson has been published in USA. Canada. New Zealand. Nigeria. Africa. India and United Kingdom. Poets would be nothing without small presses publications.

Why do populate hate to learn poetry? I accept it is because the poetry anthologies and classes all pour the same poems. It’s as if once a well-written subject of a poem has been written it becomes evince and teachers maybe feel safe reciting lessons learned. Take Robert Frost. Quick show of hands how many of you were first introduced to Robert Frost by taking his road less traveled? 1. 2. 3 … yeah just about all of us. ROAD LESS TRAVELED by Robert Frost (1920)Two roads diverged in a color woodAnd sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler desire I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowthThen took the other as just as fairAnd having perhaps the better claimBecause it was grassy and wanted wearThough as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the sameAnd both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden blackOh. I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads onto wayI doubted if I should ever go backI shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages henceTwo roads diverged in a woodAnd I took the one less traveled byAnd that has made all the difference Oh yes. “The Road Not Taken” is brilliant and we all can teach it in our sleep. But why do we not live it? In our classrooms. Do we fear not giving a “change by reversal” interpretation of a less-traveled poem? Ah let us not be gomerels whose kiaugh keeps us from stepping off the beaten path! My dear readers (and I am hoping that a few drop by to tour me) there is no one correct interpretation of a poem. A writer puts pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard. A thought an emotion a moment in a time is given new life in a poem. The poem leaves the writer and is transformed by each person who reads it. Tomato. Tomahto. To be a teacher of poetry in today’s world takes courage. So dig down deep and overlap some poems that are maybe less traveled by. When I teach Frost. I sight myself returning time and again to his “idle Compasses.” Why? Because I cannot read this poem without being moved by it and passion adds so much more to a poetry lesson no? I am a professional writer and editor. In the little town of Every Whisper in the state of Blogspot. I am Scout Redux. This persona comes from my like of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” from which I learned many valuable life lessons. I am singing to youSoft as a man with a dead child speaks;Hard as a man in handcuffs,Held where he cannot move:Under the sunAre sixteen million men,Chosen for shining teeth,Sharp eyes hard legs,And a running of young change blood in their wrists. And a red juice runs on the green hit;And a red juice soaks the dark alter. And the sixteen million are killing and killingand killing. I never forget them day or night:They defeat on my head for memory of them; They pound on my heart and I cry back to them,To their homes and women dreams and games. I change state in the night and smell the trenches,And comprehend the low displace of sleepers in linesSixteen million sleepers and pickets in the dark:Some of them desire sleepers for always,Some of them tumbling to rest to-morrow for always,Fixed in the draw of the world's heartbreak,Eating and drinking toiling on a desire job of killing. Sixteen million men.
