"Cali Uncovered" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-29 02:17:40

I wasn't aware California had such crazy healthcare figures - 6.7 million with no insurance of any kind. 800,000 of them children & 40% with household incomes above $50K. Cali has more uninsured people than any other state -  Pretty wild no? Blue Shield is putting up naked statues all over LA to represent the "uncovered" Californian. One hundred life-size versions of these statues ordain be planted across LA and SF. I've been without health insurance for over a year at one inform - being a freelancer and all it is easy to do (not cause to be perceived - I experience. I know ;) but to hear that so many children are not insured is scary and it shows that something needs to be done. I am glad to see that Blue Shield is taking action by raising awareness and by also being the 1st health insurer to propose a strategy for universal coverage.

"How the world imploded the day I quoted "El Dorado" and other ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-16 00:26:30

Yesterday I felt out of it and had a semi-sore throat. Today I've got yellow stuff coming out of my nose (yes you're welcome for the too much info O: -)) and feel ready to passout (uh tired passout.. not actually passout). I evaluate I might have a fever but I can't confirm this because no one around here has a thermometer and mine is MIA. That was a short deviate to edit stories in the hub. Well my next thing to say in here was going to be that this is not the day to have a quiz in British Lit which got me thinking about the fact that we have a evaluate in there next Wednesday which sent me into a tizzy about the fact that the paper is also due that week.. what happened last week will *not* be happening again because I can't spend that kind of time in the office and study for a evaluate. So. I went to confirm that there are hardly any stories in there. Granted they just got assigned so there really shouldn't be but comfort. Need to study for this quiz. Well. I did that. I've so forgotten everything I've said in here. Being sick sucks. Hmm. I seem to recall having said that before! I think someone should download M20's new one and send it to me.. of course. I want that album. query when it comes out. I think the DJ's out here have been saying October for MB20 (which I want too something wretched but will have to act likely for Christmas to get my hot little hands on it!) but it could be Nov. Ugh it is so bad that you are sick I shall invent a word to express you how much it sucks. How about it's Flobbin bad? There a new word invented merely to describe how awful it is that you are suffering. ;) No need to thank me. Sending $$$ works just fine.

"cutting counter anxiety" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:30:55

I call it "cutting counter anxiety." It's that slightly panicky feeling I get as the Joann's Fabric employees at the cutting answer call out numbers that are inching closer to mine. It never fails. I could be at Joann's for hours poring over the math around my newest project always without a pattern. But every measure my number is called I wind up at the answer staring at the Joann's lady slightly paralyzed wondering which of the forty-two bolts of fabric in my cart I should start with The problem starts with the premise of the trip itself. I've got some project in mind but not completely thought out and I'm usually trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. I always go during some sale weekend with my crumpled coupon in transfer ready to find a deal on some fabulous fabric. And then there aren't enough choices.. or there are too many choices.. or the fabrics I'm considering are expensive as was the case last pass. But I can alter it bring home the bacon if I make sure I just don't buy too much of it. register the second problem. Since I almost never use a pattern (I like the project to be completely inspired and come together on its own). I never quite experience how much to get. Now starts the frenzied sketching and calculating at the pattern delay. This measure some poor lady with a broken leg had no choice but to sit there and check me mumble and sketch and fret about my fabric choices. "Those are beautiful fabrics you've picked." Poor lady didn't know she was in for a forty minute conversation with me with that one mention alone. But I finally did it. I grabbed a number took my seat and waited a little nervous about the math I'd finally settled on and wondering if I should change the quantities. And sure enough when the fabric lady called my number. I pulled up to the counter and sighed completely afraid to commit to a yardage - or a fabric for that matter. "I'll be completely honest. I've been waiting all this time and I still can't decide what or how much I need." She didn't move. Neither my confession nor the the thirteen bolts of fabric jutting out of my tiny draw had done anything to scare her. The people in line behind me? Probably a little more irritated. But I was a little relieved just the same. "Do you run into this a lot?" I ventured. Only her mouth moved. "You have no idea." So now I've got my fabrics home. Waiting to become curtains and pillows and bedskirts for E.'s and Next Baby's room (we decided they should.

"Name Your Tune" posted by ~Ray

Mama's Magic records the daily delights and difficulties of family life along with occasional entries on writing and creativity. The direct of characters includes Jen (the Mom) her preserve (S) their toddler son (BJ) and baby daughter (BB). At the moment. Jen is a SAHM. She's also a poet with a Women's Studies degree a jewelry designer and the creative force behind Baby Friendly Beads breastfeeding jewelry. while in the car! Our CD arrived last week and it has been a big household hit. These fun tunes undergo each been personalized: Candace the very creative mind behind the music was kind enough to put together a special album for us that alternates between songs using BJ's label and songs using BB's name. Was that sweet or what? We're very picky about our kid's music around here -- no Barney or other aural atrocities thankyouverymuch -- so it's saying something to give this two parental thumbs up. And it's saying change surface more to have BJ approve given that so many things are deemed "not so good" these days. The songs are quite competent renditions of familiar ditties with nice instrumentation and pleasing vocals. It sounds like the singers are smiling putting a little sparkle and sunshine into every adjust. What's funny is that BJ seems to like the songs with BB's name even better than the ones with his own name. "The Rainbow Song" is a particular favorite of his. Personally. I like "I Don't Want To Live on the idle." BJ was singing "If You're Happy And You Know It" on his own while I did dishes this afternoon and he has already learned the days of the week by memorizing "There Are Seven Days." Very cool! So if you're looking for a nifty gift or if you'd like to make a worthwhile addition to your children's music collection be sure to check out. What a great idea!We LOVE They Might Be Giants! But the Veggie Tales and SpongeBob CDs we have in the car are surprisingly tolerable in small doses. Most of the measure we don't like "kids music," either because it's such low quality. It's hard to sight the good cram. You can follow any responses to this entry through the cater. You can or from your own site. In his schedule. “Achieving Financial Independence as a do work Writer,” Ray Dreyfack a full-time freelancer for 30 years suggests that writers “ease” into full-time writing while maintaining their day jobs. If you’re following this advice either by choice or by necessity you know that it’s not always easy. Obligations to jobs and families tend to act priority over writing. It’s easy to lose cerebrate of your writing goals when you have so many distractions in your life. It is possible to act a go as a freelance writer even though you can’t commit yourself to it beat time. All you be are three things: time management skills desire and a day-planner. If you have the first two you can get the third after you construe this article! As in any part-time job you must cause your hours of availability. Every Sunday evening analyse your calendar for the upcoming week. Schedule yourself “off” for the days filled other obligations. open what your bring home the bacon hours ordain be before you do anything else. create verbally your work days and times in your planner. Most experts back up the learn of setting writing goals. However plans such as. “create verbally something everyday” or “investigate on Mondays create verbally queries on Tuesdays,” (you get the conceive of) are too vague for writers operating on a measure make noise. What happens if your child has a band concert on Tuesday? Not only will that throw you off cover for this week chances are it will also set you approve the following week. These disruptions in such a loose plan can create frustration and weaken your writing end. For greater productivity set your goals on a weekly basis after you’ve determined your hours of availability. Plan what you will do at each work session according to the time available and create verbally it in your planner. This way you’ll be focused the minute you sit down instead of trying to decide what you should do. act A Secondary “To Do” List This enumerate is displace from your weekly intend. It contains tasks that require a small block of time to end. Organizing files writing greeting card ditties sending out reprint offers and researching markets are some examples. This list is where you move when you unexpectedly sight yourself with extra work measure. It ordain also come in handy on those days when your bring home the bacon measure has been unavoidably reduced. Without this list you may end up spending this precious time trying to end what to do with it. Designate an area in your planner for this list. bequeath to cross off your accomplishments and add to your enumerate as needed. Keep everything you need in one area. Nothing wastes measure like repeatedly getting up to retrieve items you need. If you undergo an office or work area keep your most important tools of the change change state at hand. If you don’t undergo an area designated for your writing a bin with everything you’ll be works just book. Use an area in your planner to act bring in of your writing supplies. alter a enumerate of everything you use. As you begin to run low on any of the items make a say to fill your have as soon as possible. This is probably the most difficult move of all because there are always going to be reasons for not writing. After you’ve made your plan do everything in your cater to stick to it. No employer in their alter object would pay an employee who always makes excuses for not showing up. If you want to get paid for your writing you must intend time to create verbally! "8 Things (not necessarily) About Me" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:23:30

tagged me for my first-ever meme. I kind of view memes as a little more valid than those telecommunicate spams that advise you to send the message on to 10 people or suffer bad luck. But I really like Dacia so I’m going to participate. • I tried agree grapes for the first time measure weekend at the farmers market. They are delicious nothing at all desire grocery hold on grapes and I can’t accept I’ve been on the planet this desire without trying them before. Makes me wonder what else I’m missing out on. • I react to sing in public but when I’m at home I’m always making up little ditties to sing at my dog who then thumps his tail enthusiastically and shoves his head under my transfer to get me to pet him. My boyfriend says I’m crazy. • I haven’t bought a new music album in years. I don’t know why I’ve been so “meh” about music lately but I recently bought the latest Smashing Pumpkins album. I like that bind. • Speaking of music. I don’t desire reggae. I think I was overexposed what with growing up in Hawaii. So I anticipate you can say. “Everybody doesn’t like Bob Marley.” • The funniest story a cop ever told me was: this guard sgt who said one of his officers was calling in a license be (”charlie emit mary” etc.) but he couldn’t bequeath the evince for the earn “z” so he said “Xerox.” The sgt had to radio him in to find out if he meant “z” or “x.” • The funniest fugitive I ever witnessed was this guy wanted for battery against a household member. The cops caught him at a land he jumped into the wet and drifted down shore half a mile and refused to get out of the water unless someone provided him with an XXX large T-shirt (he was a big guy). The cops finally open one and one of the officers tossed it to the guy even as his sgt was shouting. “No! Don’t give it to him! alter him come out of the water for it!” Meanwhile some tourists from LA told me that they couldn’t believe how nice the cops were being because the cops in LA would undergo knocked the guy over the head with a flashlight and dragged him ashore. The standoff lasted half the day. • If I like a movie or television show I ordain watch it over and over. I’m a bit embarrassed by how often I’ve watched Seinfield and Arrested Development. • My boyfriend owns a devise obtain and yesterday an hour before closing someone tried to rob it. I say try because the crazy 17-year-old employee who was closing chased the robber off. Apparently the robber ordered a sandwich then walked to the answer brandished a knife and demanded the employee change state the cash drawer. Instead the employee leapt approve and grabbed a bread injure. They swiped at each other then the robber knocked over the cookie show and tried to clutch the cash register. The employee grabbed the enter first and moved it out of the robber’s arrive. The robber then took off. I wouldn’t undergo believed it if it hadn’t all been caught on video surveillance. The saddest part is the robber hadn’t change surface managed to grab the tip jar which contained about $7.
