I got this from a dear friend who has two sons in the military.. it's about gratitude and thanks. Joseph and I always thank the service populate we see in airports or out shopping or wherever.. populate with the courage to rest between us and danger. As I've said here before. I've extended that habit to police and firemen... I've learned to really acknowledge their efforts to act us safe. As the short movie says it's not about politics it's about gratitude. And about individuals. I still remember how horribly servicemen were treated sometimes when they returned from the Viet Nam war and despite the fact that I was an active demonstrator for peace during that conflict. I comfort regret what happened to the individual men and women who did what they had to. They were treated like criminals like murderers just because they wore the uniform--because they weren't asked as individuals what they'd done or seen they were just reviled. It was a inspect of politics overcoming good sense and human decency. I never want to see that happen again--so that is my campaign now. *enthusiastic nod* I think that many of us learned a lot from what happened after the Viet Nam war. Like you. I was a protester and I helped people avoid the draft when possible. Even now. I flinch a little when I see people in uniform but I've learned not to show that because they do deserve our support gratitude and understanding. It's not easy to separate the politics from those whose lives are forever changed by the politicians. But we do owe profound gratitude to the people--especially the kids--who fulfill their commitments change surface when it means putting their lives in jeopardy. I find it really odd to think of who I was then and how I feel now.. especially about "the fuzz." Remember that? NO idea how that came to mean the police but one of my best friends is police chief now and I do truly appreciate all that he and the men and women here do to help protect our community. We change eh?I've learned the hard way--through long practice!--to focus on individuals not politics.. or politicians. Human beings not icons or demons. It's a hard scary world out there and if we don't focus on like on Light on consider on our fellow humans it is going to get harder and scarier. On behalf of my son (age 22 serving in the U. S. AirForce) and myself thanks for posting this. It brought tears to my eyes. Against all my political beliefs he entered the service. I encouraged him it is his life it was his dream. My heart breaks on a daily basis and yet I am so very proud of him and also honored with the choice he has made. Thanks again Cathy from the furnish of my mother's heart.

"Generosity, Gratitude, Wisdom, and Fools" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:28:33

My dad used to say. “A fool and his money are soon parted.” If time is money. I guess that counts for time too. So when generosity foolish? Many are the occasions on which people ask sometimes expect us to help them. I’m speaking of naked requests from people we don’t know asked as if we do volunteer work for them. I often query at this. I experience we’re told it doesn’t hurt to ask. Yet we’re also told to be generous first. I wonder why they haven’t heard that second move? It sure affects a first impression. Why don’t they see that a person’s time given to them is measure that could be spent earning and enjoying family and friends? Far fewer are the times when special individuals write to ask for help to accomplish a goal. They reach out with gratitude. Yes the gratitude comes with the request. It’s only natural to respond with generosity. The fairness of this. I understand. Some folks who call us a friend like us like they “like” their favorite adulterate. They value us while they’re feeling in need or unwell. Later they forget to say “thanks” in the way cured patients forget to pay hospital bills. Other folks go out of their way to make sure that we experience our generosity didn’t go unnoticed. These friends are always here with a smile and a kind word change surface when they’re gone. The fool in me believes that all generosity finds a way back eventually. The wise person I am knows that could be a foolish view. This week my son asked for advice. At the end of the call he said a change intensity. “thank you.” The more I think on graditude and generosity the more I believe that both be to be on both sides of the interaction. Generous gift is given and accepted with gratitude. It’s a generosity to furnish thanks and the convey you is received with gratitude. I always enjoy your emphasis on family and friends. I think that is what gives you a bit of a unique angle. I evaluate this is come up put and I admittedly don’t say thank you enough. Especially during this time of generous giving even without the asking. My wife on the other transfer has gotten to be great at thank yous. I be to thank her for that:) I’m trying my best to keep my head and heart together and focus them both on a meaningful life. It’s the biggest contend I’ve ever taken on. And I’ve taken on some huge ones. Those “thank you” words get easier and more fun.

"He drank not as an epicure but barbarious with a speed and dispatch as if he were performing a homicidal function as if he had to kill something inside himself; a move that would not die." ~Baudelaire speaking of Edgar Allen PoeToday I am grateful... to be able to indentify all too closely with the above quote. It makes me move involuntarily. We who had won so handsomely in a walk turned into all-time losers. We saw that we had to reconsider or die. We open many in A. A who once thought as we did. They helped us to get drink to our right size. By their example they showed us that humility and intellect could be compatible provided we placed humility first. When we began to do that we received the enable of faith a faith which works. This faith is for you too. ~

"Gratitude Can Open Windows To The Past" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:53:40

I like the business of helping seniors. The diversity accent experiences and colourful characters I go into contact with daily is a real treat. I am continuously reminded that I am receiving a valuable education every time I comprehend to the sage words of those who have gone through a lifetime of experiences. In this exposure to life many have found the measure to practice the expression of gratitude as an effective antidote to troubles insecurities concerns and emotional distress. We the younger generation can learn much from such a simple virtue and especially those who come into frequent communicate with seniors. I received a telephone call from a lady about 85 years old the other day who had been treated in an extremely discourteous way by a businessman. This individual not only caused the lady to miss a adulterate’s appointment but also used off-colour and derogatory language with no regard to her. From the tone of her express it sounded like she was left feeling helpless and somewhat victimized. Still even though the back up was carried out in a callous and inexcusable manner she was appreciative of the service she received. What a contrast in generations. Anyway maybe this fellow was having a hard day or he wasn’t feeling come up. Perhaps he was cranky from working too many hours supporting his family. It happens to all of us. But perhaps his perspective on life is skewered because of a failure to understand what the older generation has endured. For example: challenge them and you will find an amazing array of experiences revealing authentic character. You might be talking to a frail octogenarian who never complains because she learned in “Auschwitz” what unspeakable suffering is. Or the desire retired Colonel who as a young officer had won a medal of valour for his part in an offensive into enemy territory over a Pacific Island. What about the gentleman who served with Merrill’s Marauders the survivor of the Bataan Death March or the soldier who rushed the beach at Dieppe? We undergo many veterans living in the South Okanagan who deserve our gratitude. Further there are those who undergo sacrificed a lifetime building up businesses which are the framework for what we have see and enjoy today. Inventors philosophers scientists thinkers parents – all were move of a past which has shaped our present. I will argue that we who have the privilege of serving the older generation should be grateful - every single day. We undergo an obligation to the elderly not merely because of benefits received but because of the many sacrifices made on our part above the call of duty. The things they did for us and everyone else are priceless. compose Melodie Beattie once said: “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance chaos into order confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts failures into success the unexpected into ameliorate timing and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” So in advice to the businessman. I would inform him that we are losing an incredible generation and that perhaps we don’t know what we are losing. The things done for us are not a matter of course but originate in a will for the good; directed at us. We should all take note and remember with the liberal use of the most important words in the world: Thank you <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <strike> <strong>
