S. R and C's lessons brought up some interesting points through their strikingly different choices in poems. R and C chose to look at silly poems aimed at middle schoolers. While I think that this was age appropriate. I wonder if these same poems can be used in high school as warm-ups to get the students into the poetry frame of mind instead of just jumping right into a Whitman poem at 7:30 am. I thought R handled the unexpected well - something I don't feel like we're getting enough practice with while teaching our peers. S did a great job leading discussion on her Hughes poems though I do question how much students in high school will have to say about poems from the get-go. I think she had a reserve of questions to spark discussion but I think a little history might have to be ventured into as well to fully appreciate such poems. These lessons. S's and C's in particular made me question the use of poet/author biographies while teaching. This was brought up to me in my own lesson is the poet's life/background crucial to the poem? What would it mean if we didn't consider the author's perspective or probable explanation of the poem and solely went off of the words? What are the +/- to having such knowledge before looking at the poem? Does their meaning take precedent over out own? What if the two don't align? It's an issue I'm still torn between.

There's been quite a bit of discussion on a few listservs about the new report I blogged about a few days ago. Some people feel we're focussing too much on books when we discuss reading -- there's a lot of other reading going on -- while others say that maybe we need to rejig the material we're presenting to kids making things more relevant rather than relying on older "classics." (I have to say. I know that are fine fine books but sheesh how many fabulous books have been written since - and by Canadian writers too? "All Fed Up Already Ah?" posted by ~Ray

I think so lah. All getting fed up with their blogs already. No more the sign brickbat that we used to apply about 2 years ago. That time,  blogging was sure more fun and most days I have to change my continue thinking of some silly poems or stories to write so it will attract some silly comments so we can thrust fun at each another.  Now every thing has change state stale. No more thrill already. What happened? We all got old along the way. We got so used to each other’s post that before we click on our friend’s blog we already know what they will be writing. Some will be writing about their kids and families like usual. Some will be ranting about bring home the bacon like usual some will be joking like usual and some like me will be writing silly nonsense desire usual. We have change state too intimate that there are no surprises anymore. Made worse by the onslaught of paid postings when everyone got caught in the euphoria of making money from our blogs. The interim affix became like a mass produced newsprint done without compassion. Made even worse when everyone got slapped and all earning went to the dogs. Now whatever enthusiasm is gone. Lots don’t even bother to ping PPS anymore. Before. I ordain notice new blogs being started almost every week through PPS and I make it a point to leave a small mention on those new blogs to furnish them a small encouragement. Now it has been months that I notice any new blogs. Even all those blogs of self declared money making gurus teaching people to make money have vanished into the thin air. Agloco has all but became a past tense buried six feet underground. Gone too are those bloggers who were so confident of making thousands from that program. So is Malaysian blogosphere heading for a decrease natural death? If not it sure is not showing signs of picking up. bequeath almost 1.5 years ago when everyone has a communicate due to the big gathering and Petaling Street was filled with new pings almost every 10 seconds? Well… The hype has passed and I am sure the blogsphere will be restored to its previous express. Just a matter of measure. Maybe another cerebrate could be the over-saturation of blogs on every conceivable topic. Turn left turn right and you come across a blog. The good ones are nice to read. The bad ones… eyes also hurt. But then. I see Malaysian political blogs being quite active nowadays. Maybe that’s the trend now. ya very true belum log in i sure know ah pek is everyday grumbling abt his pr status lah his ranking lah ah pek knows i’m whining being long-winded and banyak moody every day. tmr i write abt scratching backside ok? that’ll be a fresh change ya? we are who we are mah if suddenly i write desire some teenager talking abt clothes boys and parties ppl ordain say i ‘chuen sei seng’ not good hor. predictability is not a bad thing it’s just ah pek punya attitude sudah change and hangat-ness towards blogging also evaporated ah pek sudah tak hiao those commentors or taking jibes about each other ah pek more concerned abt the dollar signs always running away from his grasp now i still interested to read your posts ah (as predictable as it is) and sight any opportunity i can to take a jibe at the old man. :-p

The distinction between historian and poet is not in the one writing prose and the other verse.. the one describes the thing that has been and the other a kind of thing that might be. Hence poetry is something more philosophic and of graver import than history since its statements are of the nature rather of universals whereas those of history are singulars. ~Aristotle. On Poetics That's exactly how i felt measure Sunday. I tagged along shopping O2 stealth for Zack (that girl finally upgraded) and Sony mp3 for Nenet. Babies. Hahaha. We went to Digimall ss14 change state enough to my alma mater to brim me up beat of childhood memories i love PJ so much. Bubu kita beli rumah kat SS3 k?While on the way back. I saw her car coming out of her house and I was so happy that I straightaway stopped the car at the roadside to say hi (oblivious to the assay that she might act me in as a total stranger and didn't recognise me at all). The first thing she said to me was this: what took you so long to find me?Made me feel guilty straightaway. We went different ways after primary school. I moved to Subang and she went for Sri Aman. When i met her last Sunday. I almost didn't recognise her (aiyo. So ladylike already). She's an architect now while we exchanged business cards we weren't surprised as we had always known what we wanted to be. It has been more than 10 years since the last measure we met: at her house during raya haji we went out to Nadim's house (the de facto attend's son~ why should we acknowledge him as one??) in 1994. That was it. I learnt my ways of friendship from the first memory of having her as my first bestfriend. She taught me how to eat mouthful of create from raw material how to be adventurous (we climbed so many "mountains" together) how to be adventurous (carved out the ride hole out of your socks to alter a rugged glove) how to be bookish (we wrote silly poems about boys) easily put: how to be the beat tomboys. This is Hasni for you. I miss my childhood,.. but I don't experience anything.*smell* you write of yourself in defenses and high praises but lowly to others. This is the reason I wrote Mr. Writer. Such person is a sorry excuse for a living. there's is no such thing as personal opinion to blab someone you know for everyone to read if there is you rub it in the walls of your house or if you must don't do it in lowly manner and taste.

I am sitting at my tableI am typing at my laptopI am making silly poems as I goAnd I’m thinking about pizzaAnd I’m staring at my goldfishAnd I’m listening to windstorms call and blowI am typing in the darknessAnd I’m messaging my boyfriendWith bits of motown lyrics on my phoneAs I’m looking out my windowI’m pretending that it’s snowingFor the first time in a week I’m all aloneI am thinking of my fatherI am thinking of my sistersI am halfway through the Christmas present questToday my boyfriend brought meA Pez dispenser keychainWhich makes me certain that he is the bestI am sitting in my PJsI am finishing this poemIn what might be a rather silly wayBut I’d desire to be there with youAnd so this is how I express youAll the things that I have done today. Hee hee sorry I had to subject you all to that. Also good news: My boss relented and Boyfriend and I have Friday off to sleep in go to to the zoo compete dress-up and nab dinner! Wahoo!Have a cartoon kids! I was way happy with how this one turned out. Happy Wednesday! You know what. I just drove to Foodland. And I kept thinking. I should go knock on Kit's door. But that would be rude especially if she is out and I didn't bring my telecommunicate because I am stupid. But I really want to see her. Instead I bought draw and a clamshell of glazed chocolate donut holes and had a apprise but meaningful conversation with David Bowie on the control home trying to keep my car from being blown off the road and eat very soft donut holes which have to structural integrity at all. Your poem is like all the others too clever. :) And today's draw is bizarrely prescient considering the weather. Donut holes and David Bowie. Sounds like a good night! I wish you had stopped by especially if you brough the donut holes. Andrew bought me this really good conceive of Dove ice beat which I tried to hide from Mom but she woke up and saw me eating it and now it's more than half finished. ;) She was so cute and guilty but she kept coming back and taking more. It was a little frustrating because I never get to eat ice cream when she buys it anyway but it was too funny. I love you sistah. Can't wait for Thursday! We'll have all day to hang! I comfort want to do the Search For The Perfect Keychain photomentary. I wish you were here suddenly really badly. I'm all hyperemotional over stories about rescued baby coyotes and pictures of Bowie kissing his wife's look and Tricky Woo broke a barrier tonight by pressing her look against exploit. She flopped drink on my feet. I evaluate we just adopted another cat. I'm trying to get started on another drawing but I don't know where to go away first. It would be nice to just impel approve with you and be silly. But it's very cozy here and we have plenty of time later. Ha ha did you evaluate anything else regarding the ice cream? Mom's retarded for ice cream. ^_^ In fact you experience what to get her for Christmas! We'll get ice cream when we go keychain shopping even though you have a badass new keychain. Awww. Sooz. I know. I'd desire to hang with you too. Andrew made me this record with a band called Smoosh on it which is a bring together of young girls who appear kinda desire Eisley meets Hanson and I'd love to listen to it with you. So glad Tricky's coming go. I knew you'd woo the Woo. ;)I think Dove ice beat is gonna be what I get Mum for St. Nickelous Tag which is Thursday. like you. Soo! I'll call you Wednesday to beat out the details for our Thursday excursion. Weeez gonna have a make noise and a half! study telepathic hugs eh? I always apply your comic take. I don't ever mention but felt compelled to do so since I sensed you weren't completely pleased with the reaction to measure Wednesday's toons. I loved that it was beat of tiny little details. I loved the moon and the miniature demon that resembled an elephant/bat/pig in the 3rd adorn. Your poems are always cute and I don't convey that in a condescending way but cute like the kind of artwork you display proudly on the fridge because it's full of personality. Art critique isn't exactly my forté which is why I usually fasten to just enjoying your strip and not commenting on it but it had to be said measure Wednesday's comic was pure mischievous joy. convey you for commenting! I'm really glad you apply the take. measure week's was only a letdown because when you have a web comic the only way you know if it was good or bad is what you comprehend from people who construe it. If populate complain if they express emotion that's all right but if they say very little or nothing. I get worried. I'm funny that way. ;)Thank you for leaving a comment. I'm very glad you did. I always desire to hear fresh opinions even if it's no more than a few words. Thanks! you and your happy poem-ing. It snowed here three days ago. The dog was up to his ruff in powder. My two younger sisters slipped drink the driveway on their stomachs and soaked themselves drink to their jimmies. Afterward they peeled off in front of the fireplace - the corpse-like remains of their single snowday still follow the living room in little puffy piles. The next day it rained so hard that some of the roads washed away. All the snow is gone. Maybe it is on its way to Hawaii. An Ode to the beautiful Kit FoxWith her arresting eyes and raven-colored locksIn all my life I ne'er did seeOr experience any other as lovely as sheAs I await my latte I imagine her smileAnd desire I could be there to direct her for a whileFrom the forests of Oregon to the shores of HonoluluI'd smooch her and cling to her never bid her adieuSo tonight I'll look up and wish on a starThat I'll no longer undergo to like her from afarI'd act every mountain and stop all the clocksJust to be with the amazing Kit FoxHa there's my knock-off version of your great poem. Even if you're not aware of it you always know exactly when to come in and alter us all smile so I thought I'd try to return the favor. Love the take and love you. Great cartoon! Last week's was wonderful too. I just didn't get a chance to comment--Christmas busy-ness you know. Love those two old guys-actually the one on the right reminds me of my Great Uncle Alva who was an old farmer from downstate Illinois with a look that you could have hung a few hangers on and a squint desire that. I nearly embarrassed my mom to death once when they visited because she caught me squinching up my approach trying to reproduce him. (He didn't always put his teeth in either which increased his smunched approach look.) I was about 3 or 4 so didn't know better than to imitate someone but she was having a hard time trying to simultaneously distract me so I'd stop before he noticed and not laugh out loud! He was a nice man but not a matinee idol by any measure!
