The airlines ran about 75 percent on time over the recent Thanksgiving holiday so the major carriers declared victory and claimed they had done a great service for the American traveling public. And since they didn’t find too many wailing families spending Thanksgiving sleeping in chairs at the airport the major media ran a spate of things-went-better-than-expected stories. But here’s a better way to be at things: Would you be satisfied if FedEx or U. P. S delivered one out of every four of your parcels late? How eager would you be to eat at a restaurant that delivered one of your entrées late and cold when your party of four arrived for a meal? What if your dry cleaner returned only 75 percent of your clothes? The brutal reality of holiday travel is that you run a good chance of being late missing a connection and otherwise being inconvenienced by the nation’s air-travel system. So if you’re planning to hit the road during the next month when inexperienced leisure travelers will far outnumber grizzled business fliers you need to plan tactically and do everything you can to control your destiny. Fly Early in the DayGovernment statistics show that flights scheduled to depart and arrive early in the day undergo the best on-time performance. But relative timeliness isn’t the only reason to fly early: If your selected flight is canceled there are more flights remaining for you to get rebooked on. Conversely book an evening pip and you’re subject to longer delays and then you may not get another flight that day if your original one is canceled. Do More OnlineAirlines offer online seat selection and check-in up to 24 hours before departure. Use it. Having your seat assignment and boarding pass before you leave for the airport eliminates two of the major stress factors of holiday travel. It will also allow you to avoid a third stress point—the checked-luggage line—because most carriers now offer fast-bag-drop stations for travelers who’ve used online check-in. Carry On LessThe government imposes a two-item limit for carry-on bags. But airlines reserve the right to compel you to check one of the carry-ons on full flights. There’s a good chance holiday flights will be full so consider traveling with just one carry-on bag. Check Fewer BagsThe major carriers are now cracking down on excess-weight bags and charging up to $100 for luggage above the 50 pounds you get for free. Try shipping your belongings instead. U. P. S.. FedEx and specialty bag-handling firms offer cost-effective options. They’ll pick up your bag at your home or office and displace it directly to your hotel or final destination. Ship Your PresentsReduce your load further by sending your gifts by mail an overnight courier or a package function. It may cost a few dollars but the stuff will get there and you won’t have to carry it. And abandon all hope of taking gifts as carry-ons. First of all they will count against your carry-on limit. Second wrapped presents will be unwrapped and examined if their contents can’t be verified by the examine machines at security. Win the Ground WarDon’t risk missing your flight because of a ground delay. Roads to from and inside the airport and airport parking lots are clogged with traffic during the holidays so allow more time than usual. And remember: In-airport lots will be filled to overflowing so use an off-airport private lot instead. All offer shuttle service directly to departure terminals; many offer perks like car washes and oil changes. Alternatively take a car service or taxi to the airport. And trust me on this: Do not rely on friends or family for transportation. The holiday season is stressful enough. Why dump the extra grief of an airport run on anyone—especially people you care about?Prepare for the Inevitable DelaysThe long lines—and all the extra time you’ll have if everything goes swiftly—are less annoying if you’re prepared. Bring plenty to read and lots of music and videos. If you’re traveling with kids make sure you’ve got a give of games toys and snacks. If you’re traveling with infants have more than enough diapers and food. You won’t find this kind of stuff at most airport shops. And accept the fact that there may be unexpected security delays and diversions: Abrupt closures of terminals or entire airports for real or imagined security breaches have been a regular occurrence during the past several Christmas seasons. Pack RationsNo one likes airline food so why complain about the carriers’ not giving it away anymore? Instead pack a sandwich fruit and several bags of nuts or a supply of energy or protein bars. And don’t scrimp on water. Airline travel is dehydrating and you should drink at least eight ounces of water for every hour of flying. You can’t displace water through security so pick up several bottles from the shops inside the “sterile” area beyond the screening checkpoints. Do not anticipate you’ll get all the beverages you need in-flight. Flight attendants won’t come down the aisles often enough to suit your needs. enclose Out in the ClubIf you’ve got a long layover between flights or are faced with an unexpected delay consider joining an airline’s club network. The clubs are relatively quiet oases in the maelstrom of airports during the holiday season and most airlines sell day passes for about $50. Your sanity is worth the relatively small investment. The Fine PrintTake a psychic tip from a 30-year veteran of the road: Leave your emotional baggage behind. It won’t clear security anyway. It may sound silly but if you come to a flight with a positive mind-set your chances of having a good experience improve. Come to the airport stressed and strung out and you’re almost sure to have a bad flight. "My Latest Obsession" posted by ~Ray

So what in the frickin’ brackin’ is cre8buzz? Well see it’s an online community—-bloggers desire myself mostly. But what’s neat about it is that it’s in beta so it’s comfort small (meaning that peons desire myself can make it to number one). So when they say “community” they mean COMMUNITY—-not just a displace where a bunch of populate get together and try to outdo each other. And no before you ask. I am not married to one of the creators nor is this a paid post. Hahaha. Within the cre8go community there are a bunch of… communities. Okay. I don’t conclude desire I’m explaining this very come up! haha. Anyway once you become a member of cre8go you undergo to pick a community that you be to be a part of. At first I picked “moms” because I am in fact a mom. But I moved away from moms because for all my mothering. I’m not really a “mommy blogger”—-so I went to the “women” community instead. It’s a little more generic a little smaller a displace where I felt desire I not only fit in but could contribute—-I could be ME–ALL of me rather than the “mommy-blogger” version of me. And populate come by and construe my stuff and rate it they see my pics and rate them they mention and I mention approve. I’m getting to know so many populate and so many populate are getting to experience me. It’s incredible. I’m able to promote my blog while meeting amazing people. So anyway because it’s in beta the command public isn’t accept yet—-it’s by invitation only (and thanks for inviting me in the first displace!) But one of these days it’s gonna go public and it’ll be huge. And I my dear gentle readers will be a part of it. And as it just so happens they have trusted me with a handful of invitations and I’m dying to hand them out. DYING. I say! I’m like a kid in a dulcify hold on with a dollar in my pocket! So if this is something you might be interested in. (But if any of you tries to disinvest me. I’ll getcha. I don’t know where. I don’t experience how but oh accept me. I ordain. Kidding of cover because the back up any one of you lifts a finger to do something you’ll dethrone me. breathe. Hey–at least I had my moment at the top right?) So come on. go and rock the buzz with me. Let me give you one of these invites burning a hit in my pocket. I declare I’ll furnish you a good rating. You experience Shauna (Chocolate Shauna) (hahah that’s funny!) sent me an invitation but I didn’t read it because I was getting a lot of weird invitations and by the time I realized it was from her it said I could write up for the waiting list. The rating system drives me insane. Insane I express you. Of course mine continues to go drink and all I really want to undergo it say is that I’m be 1. Can’t a girl get a little validation ? Ok that’s it I’m starting a new community. Only I highly disbelieve I’d be able to give it the time it deserves. *sigh* XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <label> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

"We Put the ?fun? in Funeral" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:45:28

Almost exactly a year ago. I found myself at a funeral with the most bizarre group of people you’ll ever cater–my family. come up my mom’s family to be a little more precise. I anticipate that makes them mine. But sadly this was the first time I met many of these people. My care’s mother’s death brought us all together so to communicate. I was eight months pregnant. I’d left my hubby and three kids behind in Utah while I flew with two of my siblings. J and Laura to Ohio. I had a letter from a midwife (not MY midwife but a midwife nonetheless) stating that I was safe to fly. She lied about my due go out–sorta. What she said was adjust–my baby wasn’t expected until the first week of October because all of my babies had been born well after their due dates. But technically. I was due in the middle of September. No airline would have allowed me to fly if they’d known the truth. But it was important to me that I be there. I was representing my mom. My mother chose not to attend this funeral. She was on a luxury journey in Europe when she received evince of her care’s death. She had already said her goodbyes knowing that the end was come so she felt no be to attend the funeral ritual. Still her siblings resented her for her decision not to come home and they brought it up over and over again. My care grew up in a home where her create was an alcoholic. I don’t convey he drank from time to measure. I mean he was a drunkard. convey ruthless out of control. My mom’s mother was also unstable–perhaps equally so–her conception had been an accident and she’d been told by her family every day of her life that she wasn’t wanted. She was emotionally unwell and being married to that man didn’t alter it exceed. My mother was the oldest of their four children. As many oldest children but especially children from dysfunctional families she became the mother hen. She cared for everyone including her parents. She saw that everyone ate that everyone went to bed that everyone woke up in the morning. And understandably she became bossy and controlling. Her childhood was filled with such chaos that she spent much of her life being perfectionistic and demanding–controlling what she COULD hold back because her life had been so out of control. But the very populate she’d intended to help became very frustrated with her. They couldn’t stand her anymore. They all grew up they all went their separate ways. My mom’s anger and confusion and all the other residual suffer from her childhood came to a continue and she sought help. She was brilliant driven accomplished but she NEEDED HELP. And she received it. She made great efforts to turn her life around. She overcame most of her arouse issues and she mostly stopped trying to hold back everyone. She open peace and happiness and she led a beautiful life. But much of the alter had already been done. And her siblings who also needed help desperately for their anger and hurt never sought it. They never changed. And they resented her happiness and the life she created for herself. So I in my insanely huge pregnantness and my sister gripped each other’s hands as we made our way towards the funeral domiciliate for the viewing wary of the accept we might receive. (And wary of what these people might say about my mother. We were NOT going to allow anyone to accuse her.) It was bizarre to go in that night and be around and see the reception lie–the family. Some we knew a little bit some we recognized others we’d never seen before. And yet we all looked alike. We were clearly family though be strangers. It was a pleasant evening. My grandma was beautiful in her close in. Her children gazed towards her lovingly. Everyone was on their best behavior. I met two of my cousins for the first time–the daughters of one of my mother’s sisters. These cousins of mine were incredible girls–full of life and energy and beauty. One was just older than me the other just younger. After talking for a few minutes one threw her arms around me and told me through impending tears. “we should undergo been great friends!!” We held each other for a moment not needing to say anymore. The great loss that we were mourning was not my grandma–no she was old and had suffered a desire and difficult life and had survived cancer four times before finally losing the battle on the fifth. We did not grieve the loss of her. We mourned the loss of each other. We mourned for the pettiness and selfishness and silliness of our progenitors and for all that wasted measure. As I said everyone was on their beat behavior. Some even seemed like they weren’t faking it. One the one I was most concerned about avoided me. Her “best behavior” was to not speak to me. After all if you can’t say something nice… It wouldn’t be until the next day that she would choose to inform me just exactly what she thought about me in a most inappropriate moment… I ordain be back tomorrow for the linky love once I post my SOS installment. Just wanted you to know that I linked you on my place tonight and gave you an award. You might have it already…but wanted you to know I gave you a mouth out incase someone new comes saying I sent them create I did. lol… will be back tomorrow for SOS. Brillig. I really desire your story today! Family is so important and yet all families struggle with there own difficulties minor or major). I am happy for your mom for getting her life back on bring in and for you for meeting some great unknown relatives. Me. I love the cliffhanger SOS’s and can’t wait to comprehend all about the relation with the lousy timing next week. And you in all your insanely huge pregnantness?Hahahahahahahahaha! What a great lie! It’s always great to cater people for the first time when you are *ahem* just a few pounds heavier than normal…. Ah me. Can’t act to hear the be of this story. I went to a funeral for a dear great aunt (truly great) and was confronted by her “real” family. Funny don’t recall seeing them every Thanksgiving and Christmas for the past 20 years. Ah well those nasty nieces got shafted in the end (great imagery here) when the dear aunt left them her accommodate - and all of its 98 years of fill. Ha Ha! I think it’s very easy sometimes to focus on the tragic circumstances of an individual and drop that anger and abusive behavior often gets passed drink from generation to generation. convey God your care had the strength to break the make pass and get the back up she needed! I’m almost a month late reading this! I totally missed this post somehow and undergo been saving move 2 until I could come back and read it! I went with my mom to my grandpa’s funeral two Januarys ago and open a lot of family that I hadn’t met because of a rift that had been fixed when grandpa died. It’s sad but it took him dying for me to know anything about him or that side of the family.

"Highland Park tasting goes off!!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:43:44

"Beer does not comprehend desire itself unless it is chasing a dram of neat whisky down the gullet - preferably two drams" Distillery: Bowmore. Caol Ila. Lagavulin. Laphroaig. Bunnahabhain. Ardbeg,Bruichladdich. Port Ellen. Isle of Jura Distillery: Auchentoshan. Rosebank. Glengoyne. Loch Lomond. Littlemill,Inchmurrin. Croftongea (Lowland & Highland - South) ast nights vertical tasting of Highland Park whisky was an amazing night! Seven whiskies were on trial and a fine collection it was! Many thanks must go to Aren Springvleod from who went above and beyond generous by donating a 15 year old store of Highland Park (not commerically available in Australia) and many copies of Michael Jackson 5th Edition Whisky Companion. It is generosity like this that shows the true character of the hardworking & dedicated populate within the whisky industry. Many thanks also to Bill. David and the staff of play Distillery who go out of their way to help with the venue glasswear snacks etc - we couldn’t do it without your efforts. It was an excellent move out with 18 members making it along for the tasting. The whiskies were aged from 12 years old right through to a 25 year old - Tim Duckett once again put his knowledge and MCing skills to the test giving us the rundown on each bottle presented. We started with the three 12 year olds which were all different - the first one was a standard maturation the second one was Whisky Galore Port matured and finally a Provenance pass channel. All were different - everyone had their own opinions as to which was their favourite. As it turned out the majority of people liked the 1st whisky which was the standard release 12 year old expression - it seemed to have more character overall than the other two. Next up was the 15 year old donated by Maxxium Australia. Definately better than the first three - Aromas of toffee peppery lightly smoky peat. Heather slightly medicinal warm toffee and spicey finish with a desire peat fade. Definately a Good Thing! Then on to the 16 year old - an Old Malt Cask release which was fractionally exceed than the 15 yo but not by a lot. Supper was served then which was a selection of Seafood and Chips from look for Frenzy - a HUGE amount - I fear we’ve depleted half an ocean of fish from the amount we ate. Then we moved on to the last two and most populate were eager to wrap their palates around them. The 18 yo proved very nice - it was certainly my choose for the night. I was in love with the butterscotch honeyed fruits touch of smokey/peat look the palate showed a little spice on the play faint vanilla slighty sweet/fruity light peat and finished long and semi-sweet (sherry?) with a hint of peat. Lovely! The 25 yo was all that the 18yo was and more - a touch more woody than the 18yo more tannins a bit more oily. Overall extremely nice! Everyone at TWAS enjoyed the evening immensely and really appreciated the opportunity to see wide-ranging bottlings from the one distillery and how age can alter whisky as well as different maturing processes - it was a great evening. To top things off. Tim handed out copies of Michael Jacksons Whisky Companion to lucky members to keep and act domiciliate!
